Submission Preparation Checklist
This submission has not been previously published, nor is it under consideration by another journal.
The submission file is in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.
Citations and references conform to APA 7th edition style; DOI information is provided for all references where available.
The text is single-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman, with 2.5 cm margins.
The manuscript includes an abstract of 200–250 words and 5–7 keywords. If written in a language other than English, an English title and abstract are also included.
The manuscript has been anonymised for double-blind peer review; author information is provided on a separate cover page.
All authors' valid ORCID identifiers are provided on the cover page.
For multi-author submissions, an author contribution statement following the CRediT taxonomy has been prepared.
Conflict of interest, funding source, and (where applicable) ethics committee approval documents have been provided.
For research involving human or animal subjects, the ethics approval document has been uploaded.
Any use of artificial intelligence tools is transparently declared in the manuscript.
The work has been screened for plagiarism, and the similarity index is below 20%.
Tables and figures are numbered, sourced, and at minimum 300 dpi resolution.
The author(s) accept publication under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Ready-to-Use Template — Article Template (APA 7)
We recommend downloading and using the article template below, which conforms to APA 7th edition. It includes title, abstract, keywords, IMRaD sections (Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion), a sample table, and reference formatting. The red NOTE blocks in the template must be deleted before submission.
Research Article
The Research Article section publishes original empirical research and theoretical analyses in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian studies. Submissions should be 6,000-10,000 words, address a clear research question, and employ appropriate scholarly methods. All articles undergo double-blind peer review.

1. Copyright
The author(s) retain copyright of the article. By accepting publication in JKS, the author(s) grant the journal the right of first publication.

Under this license, third parties — provided proper attribution is given to the author(s) and the journal — may freely read, download, copy, distribute, print, create derivatives, and use the article for any purpose, including commercial.

— Share the article on a personal website, institutional repository, or platforms such as ResearchGate or Academia.edu.
— Use the article as teaching material.
— Use part or all of the article in subsequent works, provided JKS is cited.
5. Corrections and Retractions
If a serious error is identified in the published article, the author(s) shall promptly inform the Editorial Board and cooperate with the erratum or retraction process.
6. Data Sharing
The author(s) agree to share the underlying data of the work as openly as ethical constraints allow. A "Data Availability Statement" will appear in the article.
7. Use of Artificial Intelligence
If artificial intelligence tools were used in preparing the manuscript, this has been transparently declared. AI is not listed as an author; full responsibility lies with the human author(s).
8. Third-Party Sharing
Metadata of the published article (author information, title, abstract, DOI, etc.) will be automatically transmitted to Crossref, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and other academic databases.

The Journal of Kyrgyzstan Studies (JKS) respects user privacy and takes seriously its responsibility to protect personal data. This Privacy Statement explains how your personal data is collected, used, and protected.
Information Collected
When you register with the journal or submit a manuscript, we may collect the following information:
- First name, last name, and title
- Email address
- Institutional affiliation and academic position
- ORCID identifier (mandatory for authors)
- Postal address (optional)
- Academic interests and areas of expertise
- Correspondence relating to manuscript submission and review processes
Purpose of Use
Personal information collected is used solely for the journal's academic purposes:
- Conducting editorial and peer-review processes
- Facilitating communication between authors, reviewers, and editors
- Establishing academic records of published content and transmitting metadata to indexing databases
- Sending journal announcements (only with explicit consent)
- Fulfilling legal obligations
Sharing with Third Parties
Your personal data is not shared with third parties except in the following cases:
- Academic indexing databases: Author information for published articles (name, affiliation, ORCID) is automatically transmitted to DOAJ, Crossref, and similar academic indexes. This sharing is a natural part of academic publishing.
- OJS / PKP: Anonymised aggregate data, such as article metrics, may be shared with the software developer Public Knowledge Project (PKP). Such sharing contains no personal data.
- Legal obligations: Information may be disclosed where required by law, legal process, or competent authorities.
Data Security
Personal data is protected by reasonable technical and administrative security measures against unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure. Data is transmitted via encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored on secure servers.
Data Retention Period
Personal data is retained for as long as necessary for the journal's academic purposes. If you request account deletion, all personal data will be removed within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law. Author information in published articles will be retained to preserve the integrity of the academic record.
User Rights
Under the GDPR and applicable data protection legislation, you have the following rights:
- Right of access: to obtain information about the personal data held about you
- Right to rectification: to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Right to erasure: to request deletion of your personal data under certain conditions ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to restrict processing: to request that processing be limited
- Right to data portability: to receive your data in a structured format
- Right to object: to object to the processing of your data
